So because J. Alba won our last poll wearing the Oliver Peoples' Zooey, we decided to put her up against Eliza. So who wore them best?

So while I was doing a little shopping today I decided to stop into a Solstice Sunglass Boutique. I took a few minutes and looked at every brand and was surprised that I wasn't greeted or even acknowledged once while I was there.

I will admit that it was near closing time, but I wasn't the only one; there was also a couple trying on glasses together that were not being helped either. What makes me laugh about this is that 'once upon a time' yours truly, Rays Lite, worked for Solstice. I was actually presented the opportunity to work for them while I was still working for Sunglass Hut. After accepting the job it didn't take long for me to see the writing on the wall that read "We don't know what we are doing".

Back then I was trying to take a struggling area and bring it up to standard. Solstice fought me on everything I needed to make this happen and ultimately killed my desire to work at all. The funny thing about it is that if they hadn't destroyed my passion then there might not be a Celebrity Sunglasses Finder today.

Basically what makes me laugh is how now as a customer to them they are not doing their job by simply greeting me and helping me with my needs and now I help literally thousands of people a day through my website.

I didn't start this website to be rich & famous. I started it to answer the question that I had been asked by people who love sunglasses, which was "What Are They Wearing?"

It's just nice to see that Solstice's motto is still
"We Don't Know What We Are Doing!"

P.S. - When I left the store I even smiled and waved goodbye to the associate who, in return, stared at me like I was invisible and didn't say a thing. Amazing!

This may be old news to some and not important to others, but we wanted to briefly discuss the break up between Maui Jim and Luxottica. This past October Maui Jim announced that it will no longer be distributing its glasses in Luxottica owned retail stores. This means that if you are a fan of Maui you won't be seeing them in Sunglass Huts for the first time since about 1992.

So the real story behind this situation is that Luxottica tried to dictate to Maui Jim what price they would pay Maui for their glasses. Maui decided that they'd rather not have their product in Sunglass Huts than settle for what Luxottica was offering them. So basically, Luxottica once again tried to strong arm another brand into submission and Maui said FU !

I remember once a rep from Maui Jim told me that Luxottica calls Maui Jim once a week and asks how much to buy the entire company. You've gotta love the integrity of Maui not to give in and let Luxottica take over and ruin their product. The unfortunate thing is that it's us, the customer, who really loses in a battle like this. With Maui not being sold in Huts anymore, that will most likely put them into Solstice stores and any boutiques not owned by Luxottica.

Solstice isn't really known for their expertise in sport & function brands. In fact, I remember back in the day when I worked for Solstice, I won a Maui Jim Ipod because I sold more Maui Jims than any other store in the company and we were by far the lowest volume store around at the time. That's bad news. I believe that Maui is banking on their loyal fan base and figure that people will go where ever they need to go to find their products.

The problem with that is, I remember a similar situation when Oakley and Luxottica got into a tiff because Luxottica was producing Ray Bans that resembled a few Oakley styles. Oakley fought back by sending hardly any product to Sunglass Huts for a period of time and look at how that situation turned out; Luxotica bought Oakley about 6 years later. I truly think Luxottica will continue trying to buy Maui forever, they're the last major brand left with that kind of huge following.

Honestly, I hope it never happens. Can't we have at least one brand that only focuses on high quality lenses and not world domination? What do you guys think? Let me know, Rays Lite :)
